Laïla Mestari is a Moroccan-born artist who lives in Montreal and Chicago. Anchored in a logic of collage and assemblage, her interdisciplinary practice examines themes around diasporic identity and cultural hybridity. Recipient of several grants and awards (Joan Livingstone Merit Scholarship, Ada Lovelace Prize, Canada Council for the Arts, CALQ, FRQSC, Valedictorian of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Irene F. Whittome Prize in Studio Arts), Mestari has been showing her work across North America and Europe and is currently an MFA candidate at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work is represented by Artoduction (Galerie 3), distributed by Vidéographe and is part of the CPOA collection of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec in Canada.
